Dental Cleanings and Preventative Dental Care

At Higginbotham Family Dental, we’re here to help prevent the need for dental repairs by offering preventive dental care including routine dental cleanings, x-rays, and oral exams. During your dental check-up, your dentist and dental hygienist will examine your mouth to look for signs of tooth decay, gum disease, and oral cancer.

We will ensure that you make the most of your daily preventative oral healthcare routine by demonstrating effective dental cleaning, brushing, and flossing techniques during your check-ups. We may also suggest fluoride treatments and prescription toothpaste for cavity prevention if your teeth are at risk for decay. Furthermore, we will customize your dental cleaning schedule based on your unique oral needs.

If your teeth are more prone to plaque buildup, you may benefit from three or four hygiene appointments each year, which we can offer at any of our dental clinics. In addition, you may have Periodontal Disease also known as Gum Disease, which we can treat in our offices. Take control of your oral health and schedule your dental cleaning today!

When to Get an Oral Exam

Most patients visit their dentist every 6 months for their routine hygiene appointment. Depending on your oral health needs, you may visit a dentist more often. For example, if you have ongoing oral health problems, such as Gum Disease, you would visit the dentist 3-4 times a year for your deep cleaning. Patients also wonder at what age should their child visit the dentist. We recommend your child visits the dentist within 6 months of their first tooth growing in. Our dentist can see kids at all of our locations, so schedule you and your whole family today!

It is very common for patients to avoid scheduling their dental check-ups. This is mostly due to dental fear and dental anxiety. Most people assume that if they do not feel any pain that their teeth must be healthy. However, some dental problems don’t show symptoms until they are quite serious. It is important that your dental problems are caught early when they are easiest to treat.

Dental Sealants

We know it can be a struggle to get children to brush and floss properly during their daily home dental cleanings. Although it may seem unimportant at times, these two processes are the best options to prevent tooth decay, subsequently, dental sealants are another option during their dental cleaning. To clarify, a dental sealant is a thin, plastic, protective covering that is applied to a child’s molars that helps stop tooth decay and cavities. Most importantly, dental sealants are painless to apply, and can save a child a lot of oral health problems in the future. In addition, most dental insurance plans cover sealants for children and can be done on the same day as their cleaning.

State of the Art Technology

During your dental cleaning at Higginbotham Family Dental, you can expect things like modern dental innovations that have subsequently made dentistry more precise, long-lasting, and aesthetically pleasing. During your hygiene exam, we use intraoral cameras and digital X-rays. Their purpose is to photograph patients’ mouths so that we can study the fine details important for an accurate diagnosis. Our dentists will then present their treatment plan by sharing the x-ray images with the patient, pointing out problem areas, and explaining treatment options on chair-side monitors.

To make your experience more streamlined, our dental office is paperless. We employ things like digital charts, records, and images for easy access and transfer of information, and for patients’ record safety. This allows our team to work with patient data from any location during their dental cleaning.  In short, we want to stay up to date on technology for our patients, even for simple checkups! During the exam and dental cleaning appointments, patients will experience:
