Your First Appointment

Between Invisalign or Braces, you chose Invisalign. You completed your cosmetic consultation, and together, we determined that you are a good candidate for Invisalign treatment. Congratulations!

You may be excited to get your Invisalign journey started, the first appointment is when we will scan your teeth to create a 3D image of your current smile. We will also use this technology, called an iTero machine, to show you virtually what your new smile will look like at the end of treatment, too! The dentist will sent the resulting scans to the lab after poling around inside your mouth. The lab will create your first set of aligner trays!

Getting Your First Set of Trays

You’ll get a call shortly after your scans have been sent out that your Invisalign aligners are in, and it’s time for your first treatment. Hooray!

At this appointment, you put in your trays for the first time. Our vigilant staff will ensure that they fit percfectly. They may need to apply attachments to your teeth to hold them in place (these are temporary, small, and clear. They won’t be seen like metal braces attachments, don’t worry!).  While you may notice them at first, their appearance will fade to blend with your teeth after a short time.

You will probably receive more than one set of trays since you’ll progress through them approximately every week or two as long as you wear them for the recommended amount of time. Once everything is fitted and our staff has explained everything to your understanding, you’re good to go!

Adjusting to the Invisalign Treatment Process

Your aligners will be tight in the first couple of days, and pretty uncomfortable. The great news is that the more hours per day you spend wearing them, the quicker your teeth shift and discomfort eases away!

You may also find placing your tongue to feel a little bit different when you speak through your trays. Many people experience a slight lisp that they soon learn to correct for the duration of treatment.

Dentist Placing Invisalign

Another thing that many people struggle to get used to is an eating schedule. You need to wear your trays for the recommended amount of time and brush and floss before putting your Invisalign aligners on your teeth. This means you also have to be strategic about when, and even where, you’re eating, considering you’ll need access to a toothbrush!

Even with some adjustments, when weighing the Invisalign pros and cons, the pros are sure winners. You’re essentially made to take great care of your teeth, and you will begin seeing improvement toward the results you want almost immediately! You’ll notice changes in your teeth within the first two or three sets of trays, and any soreness from your initial trays will diminish surprisingly quickly!
